Castle Point collects black non-recycling sacks, pink recycling sacks, a glass box and, where the new service has started, blue sacks for paper and card, each every other week. Food caddies are weekly. Garden waste is a paid brown bin, also weekly, or a council sack. The collection day is on the council's own calendar. Sacks and the glass box go to the boundary by 7am.

Castle Point collects food waste every week. Food waste is collected every week. Each home has a small kitchen caddy, tipped into a larger caddy that goes out. Peelings, plate scrapings, rotten food and meat are accepted. Milk, soup, gravy and oil must not be poured in. Dog waste and animal bedding stay out of the caddy and out of the garden waste: double bag animal waste and put it with the non-recyclable collection. Only a compostable bag that shows the symbol on the food page is allowed.
Garden waste is a paid-for service. A brown bin subscription runs from 1 April to 31 March. New subscribers and people renewing pay £21.50 for the remaining part of 2026/27. The council says the price is reduced to half from October. A new bin is delivered within 28 days. Without a bin, council garden sacks are £8 for a roll of 20, from the leisure centres or from Benfleet, Hadleigh, Tarpots and Canvey Island libraries. The subscribed brown bin is collected every week, all year. You can have more than one bin. Branches and logs have to be no more than 7cm across and 1m long, and extra material can be tied into a maximum of 2 bundles. The bin the council describes holds 240 litres.
Use the missed collection form after you have checked the day, the 7am deadline and contamination. A pink sack, box or bin left with a contamination note is not collected again until the next scheduled day. Report within 2 working days of the correct collection day. Waste has to have been out by 7am. If the day was wrong, put it out on the next collection day.
Blue sacks are for paper and card and are collected with the pink sacks every other week. Friday collections could start using them from 2 October. Monday to Thursday collections start from 2 November. Tetra packs and cartons stay in the pink sack. The black sack page says crisp packets and plastic bags, classed as soft plastics, will soon be able to go in the pink sack.
Pink sacks are free and a roll is delivered once a year. You can also collect them from the leisure centres or from Benfleet, Hadleigh, Tarpots and Canvey Island libraries. Rinse food containers. Do not put batteries in the sack. Hard plastic such as toys and coat hangers is listed as accepted. One black bag in a flat's communal recycling bin, which has a pink lid, can spoil the load, and a bin that is contaminated often may be taken away.
New glass boxes are green. Crews still empty the older yellow boxes. The box is 55L and goes out with the pink sack every other week. A replacement is from the council offices in Kiln Road, Benfleet, and the page asks you to call 01268 882200 before you travel because stocks are limited. Flats have a communal glass bin. Glass does not go in a sack.
Flats put black bags in the communal bin marked for non-recyclable waste, with a black or blue lid. The black sack itself can be one you bought in a shop. Drinks glasses and broken crockery go in that sack only if they are wrapped or boxed. Pyrex is on the black sack list, not the glass box list.
The brown bin is 240 litres and is collected every week for subscribers. Loose branches must be within 7cm and 1m, or tied, up to 2 bundles. Black sacks of garden waste are left. Vegetable peelings go in the food caddy. The subscription year is 1 April to 31 March, and the page prices the rest of 2026/27 at £21.50, half price from October, with delivery inside 28 days. Council sacks are £8 for a roll of 20.
If a crew leaves a contamination note on a pink sack or box, take the wrong items out and wait for the next day. A genuine miss, with waste out by 7am, can be reported for 2 working days.
