Fareham bin collection days

Fareham Borough Council collects general waste and dry mixed recycling from the kerbside on alternate weeks, and food waste every week. Garden waste is the paid Clip & Collect service. Glass is not collected from the kerbside until a new sorting plant in Eastleigh can take it.

Food waste and the national recycling rules

Fareham collects food waste every week. Weekly food waste collections started in Fareham on 30 March 2026, on the same day as the residual or recycling bin unless the council says otherwise. Houses with a kerbside wheeled bin were given an indoor kitchen caddy and an outdoor food waste bin. Glass and a wider range of plastics wait on a new materials recovery facility at Chickenhall Lane in Eastleigh, planned for 2028. Until then there is no kerbside glass collection.

Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. Clip & Collect charges £44 for a new 240 litre brown-lidded bin, as a one-off, and £73 a year to subscribe. Residents who originally bought a 140 litre bin pay £62 a year. The published charges are labelled 2025-2026. Subscribed garden waste is collected every 2 weeks, with up to 25 collections a year. You can share a bin with a neighbour. Delivery of a new bin can take up to four weeks in spring and summer, and the subscription is not reduced while you wait.

If your bin was missed

If there is no hanger on the bin and no road access problem has been published, the crew may have missed it by mistake and will come back. Report it on the online form or phone 01329 236100. The council will not return if the bin was not on the kerbside by 6am, or if the wrong items were in it. Tell the council within 3 working days of the missed collection. A bin missed on Monday morning needs to be reported by 4pm on Wednesday. They try to return within 2 working days of the report. After 3 days they will not send a vehicle back.

Good to know in Fareham

  • The blue-top recycling bin must be filled loose. Do not use a liner, a carrier bag or a bin liner, because liners tangle in the vehicle hoist and tear. Recyclables should be clean and dry. A printed guide lists individual materials, but that guide is a separate file and is not repeated here. The recycling page says glass and a wider set of plastics wait on the new materials recovery facility at Chickenhall Lane in Eastleigh, planned for 2028.
  • Food waste collections began on 30 March 2026. Write the house name or number on the outdoor food bin in permanent marker or paint. Put that bin out on the same day as the big bin. Communal properties were given a separate food bin and a leaflet. Anything not on the food list, including packaging, liquids, nappies and pet waste, stays out of the food bin.
  • Garden waste such as grass cuttings, hedge trimmings and prunings, including small branches up to 75mm across, is composted into a soil conditioner called Pro-Grow. Turf, soil and kitchen peelings are refused. The council says regulations about foot and mouth disease are why peelings stay out of the garden bin. Sign up online, email clipandcollect@fareham.gov.uk, or call 01329 236100.
  • A missed bin that was out by 6am, with the right contents and no published access problem, can be reported within 3 working days. The example on the missed-bin page is a Monday morning miss reported by 4pm on Wednesday, with a return aimed at within 2 working days.
  • As of 3 October 2026 the food waste page said weekly collections had already started, and the recycling page still said kerbside glass would wait until the Eastleigh plant is ready.
