Haringey bin collection days

Haringey households have a black bin for general waste, a green-lid recycling bin or green sacks, a kitchen caddy with a green outdoor food bin, and an optional brown bin for paid garden waste. Estates share larger silver, black and brown-lid wheelie bins. The council does not publish one collection pattern, so the checker is the place to learn your days.

If your bin was missed

Check which day your bins are due and whether a contaminated bin tag was left on the bin, then report the missed collection on the council's waste and recycling services page. You can also contact Veolia, the council's waste contractor, by phone, email or at the Watermead Way depot. The council does not give a reporting deadline on the pages read. Veolia's phone line is open Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm.

Good to know in Haringey

  • Haringey's waste service is run by its contractor Veolia, and the council's pages give Veolia's phone number, email address and Watermead Way depot for queries. Online the council asks you to find your collection day and report missed bins through its waste and recycling services page.
  • Bins should be out by 6am on collection day unless you have a timed collection. The lid must shut, sacks must be tied, and the bin needs to be on your property boundary where crews can see and reach it. Sharp items such as broken glass should be wrapped in newspaper.
  • If you have no space at the front of your home you can put bins on the pavement. The council says it is looking into a permit system to make this clearer. If you have scaffolding in your front garden you can ask Veolia for permission to leave bins on the pavement for up to 6 weeks.
  • A bin that is too heavy, overflowing or contaminated may not be collected. The crew logs the problem and tags the bin, and you must clear the wrong items before the next collection. The council also runs a Keep Your Bin Happy campaign and offers a free food caddy for excess food scraps.
  • Households that want a garden waste bin sign up with Veolia online. The council's page lists three options, with the small bin and sacks both costing less than the large bin.
  • The two reuse and recycling centres are at Edmonton EcoPark and Western Road. The council also lists clothing banks and Bring Banks for small electricals around the borough.
  • The council's bin collections page says that putting the wrong item in your rubbish or recycling bins can contaminate them, which means they will not be collected. Its missed bin page asks you to check for a contaminated bin tag on your rubbish or recycling bin before reporting a missed collection.
