Hillingdon bin collection days

Hillingdon collects household rubbish every week, in tied black bags rather than a wheelie bin, and takes paper, card, glass, cans and plastics in the same clear recycling bag, also every week. Food waste is a free separate service. Garden waste is a paid sack collection, weekly for most of the year and fortnightly in winter.

Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. The 2026/27 garden waste subscription costs £77, paid by card or by an annual Direct Debit that renews each year. New subscribers get sacks and tags. People who already have the service get new tags for their existing sacks, delivered within 28 days. While you wait, the old tags can stay on the sacks. The 2026/27 service runs from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027.

Good to know in Hillingdon

  • The weekly rubbish round is stated on the household rubbish page. The list of what can go in the black bags is on the collections page, and it uses the council's own wording, including cigarette buds. Recyclable items, food and garden waste are not meant for those bags.
  • Clear recycling bags should hold items that are clean, dry and empty. Black plant pots are excluded. The council's own list also prints the words Junk mall between envelopes and magazines. That looks like a typing error for junk mail, so it is not repeated here as a material.
  • The food waste sign-up page says the service is free for houses and maisonettes with private gardens, and for blocks of flats. Those pages do not say whether the caddy is emptied every week. They tell you to check your collection day. Houses should leave the caddy at the front of the property before 6am, inside the boundary where possible. Some flats use a 140L communal food bin and some a green outdoor food bin. Cooking oil has its own bin at Harefield Civic Amenity Site.
  • If you cannot move recycling to the boundary and nobody can help, you can ask for an assisted collection from the front door.
  • Garden waste tags for 2026/27 are orange. Write your address on the back and fix one tag to the handle of each sack. Take off the old green tags from the 2025/2026 service. The service page says collections are weekly between March and November and fortnightly from December to February, Monday to Friday, with changes over bank holidays. The standard issue is 3 sacks and tags, and a household can ask for up to 3 more.
  • As of 3 October 2026 the centres page named Harefield Civic Amenity Site on New Years Green Lane, Harefield, UB9 6LX, Space Waye on the North Feltham Trading Estate, Pier Road, Feltham, TW14 0TH, and West Drayton waste weekends at the Railway Sidings, Tavistock Road, UB7 7QT. The same page said highway works on New Years Green Lane would start on Monday 5 October and last approximately 10 weeks, with Harefield staying open.
  • Missed rubbish is reported in Love Clean Streets, not on a simple council form. You need an account with your home address saved before the waste option appears.
