King's Lynn and West Norfolk collects from a black general waste bin, a green recycling bin, a grey food waste bin and, for subscribers, a brown garden waste bin. The black bin and the green bin are emptied in alternate weeks, and the food bin goes out every week alongside whichever one is due. Some areas are bagged-waste areas, where black bags are collected weekly instead of a wheeled bin. The borough is a district in Norfolk, so Norfolk County Council runs the household waste recycling centres.

Food waste and the national recycling rules
King's Lynn and West Norfolk collects food waste every week. King's Lynn and West Norfolk has collected food waste every week since April 2013. The 23-litre grey outdoor bin goes out next to whichever of your black or green bins is due, and food must be wrapped or in a bag, which can now be any plastic bag.
Garden waste is a paid-for service. The brown bin service costs £81.00 a year, non-refundable and charged from the month the bin is delivered, and is usually paid by direct debit. If a bin was removed from a property for non-payment, there may be a redelivery fee of £36.45. You can share a bin with a neighbour if you both agree. The council does not collect garden waste over the busy Christmas and New Year period. Bin delivery usually takes four weeks, and your subscription starts at the end of the month in which the bin is delivered.
The council says crews empty bins until 6pm, so check its service disruption page and your calendar first, because bank holidays shift collections. It will not empty a bin that was not at the collection point by 7am, holds the wrong materials, has excess waste that was not agreed, or whose food has frozen to the sides. Otherwise report the miss on the online form with your address and the planned collection date, and leave the bin out. Report within two days after the collection was due and before 12 noon on the second day. The council then returns within two days.
Crews start collecting at 7am. Put your bin out at the boundary of your property before 7am but after 7pm the previous evening, where the crew can see it, and bring it back by the end of the collection day.
Overflowing bins and side waste are not collected. If you have too much waste, or live in a bagged area and have garden waste, you can put it in a black sack sealed with a pink or red tag, bought through the council's red tags page.
Recycling must be loose, clean and dry. A green bin with plastic bags in it is not emptied until the bags are removed, and a contaminated bin may be emptied as general waste instead.
Black bin waste is sent to Holland to be processed and incinerated, and the borough's recycling goes to the Norse Environmental Waste Services plant in Norwich to be sorted.
The calendar shows dates for every bin or bag at your home, and reflects bank holiday changes. Brown bin dates are shown only if you have paid for the service.
Crews can empty several food bins into one larger bin and tip it into a separate food compartment of the vehicle, so do not be alarmed if you see food waste going into the same truck.
