Good to know in Maldon

  • The council works with Suez. Crews start at 7am. The missed collection page says rounds run Tuesday to Friday from 7am to 5pm, and times can vary, so the morning deadline still stands.
  • Most homes get 3 rolls of pink sacks once a year in May and June. Extra sacks and caddy liners are free from stockists. Homes that cannot take a wheeled bin get 2 rolls of black sacks a year. The standards page limits those black sacks to four a collection. There is no limit on pink sacks.
  • Large polystyrene can go in a black refuse sack beside the grey bin with a note that it is polystyrene only. Ordinary side waste is not collected. Replacement refuse bins and recycling containers are free and usually arrive within 5 working days. Garden bins are charged.
  • The garden page and the service standards page do not describe the garden calendar in the same words. Use the collection calendar for the week you are in. A damaged garden bin is replaced free for 3 years, at half the replacement fee in years 4 and 5, and at £38.00 after that. Lost or stolen bins are paid for at any age. The garden page gives the automated payment line 01621 212410 and says delivery can take up to 10 working days.
  • Glass boxes get heavy. The recycling page asks you to put the box out on every glass collection even when it is nearly empty. The food caddy can be locked. About 30% of the general rubbish the food page describes is food waste.
  • The standards page says the district has 33 local recycling centres. Essex County Council sites are the other place the garden page names for garden waste you take yourself.
