North East Lincolnshire bin collection days

North East Lincolnshire is a unitary authority, so one council collects the waste and runs the two community recycling centres. Households sort into a green bin for rubbish, a grey bin for plastic, metal and glass, a blue bin for paper and card, and, for subscribers, a brown bin for garden waste. The council describes alternate fortnightly collections for about 75,000 households. Its pages do not describe a food waste collection, so check the council's own pages if you expect one.

Food waste and the national recycling rules

North East Lincolnshire does not collect food waste every week. As of 3 October 2026 the council's pages on what goes in your bins list four bins only, green, grey, blue and brown, and its waste overview describes alternate fortnightly collections. Neither page describes a food waste collection, so check the council before assuming one is available at your address.

Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. The 2026/27 garden waste service costs £43.50 per bin, which the council works out at £1.89 for each of 23 collections. You can sign up online by debit or credit card, by phone on 01472 326288 (option 3), or in person at a Post Office or PayPoint with your barcoded letter. Bin sticker delivery takes about 10 working days. Collections start on 30 March 2026, with a winter break from 15 December to 25 January, and the service finishes in March 2027. Put the bin out before 7am, labelled with your property number.

If your bin was missed

Check that your bin was outside your property boundary or agreed collection point before 7am, held the right items and was not overfilled or too heavy. Then report the miss online. The council reviews each report, and if your bin was missed for a reason such as being contaminated, the crew will not return until the next collection date. You can also ring the waste hotline on 01472 326288, option 1. Reports can only be made after 2:30pm on the scheduled day of collection or before 12pm the following day.

Your nearest tip

Good to know in North East Lincolnshire

  • Rubbish in the green bin goes to an energy-from-waste plant run by NEWLINCS, where it is burnt to generate electricity and the ash and scrap metal are recycled. The grey bin contents go to sorting sites around the UK, and paper and cardboard go to Palm Paper Limited to be made into newsprint and cardboard.
  • Council staff may check what is in your bin, to improve services, give advice and protect workers. Put only the right items in each bin, because wrong items can mean a missed collection.
  • Do not put extra rubbish out beside the bin: an overflowing bin, one that is too heavy or one blocked by a vehicle will not be emptied. A damaged bin that cannot be safely lifted is not emptied either, and a replacement charge applies.
  • Each household can visit the recycling centres a maximum of twice a day in a car, small van, SUV or estate car, and large vehicles and trailers once a day. Only residents of the borough may use them. A declaration form is needed before visiting in a van, 4x4, people carrier or with a trailer.
  • Cardboard can be taken to either tip, but the council says it is only recycled if it goes in your blue bin or at the Grimsby tip.
  • On the day we checked, the council's online collection schedule was unavailable for scheduled maintenance, so you may need to try again later or ring 01472 326288.
