Rossendale bin collection days

Rossendale's green bin is general waste. The blue bin is glass, cans and plastics. The grey bin, or an aqua sack, is paper and cardboard. The brown bin is paid garden waste, collected fortnightly. Food caddies are a weekly round from the week of 6th April 2026. The green, blue and grey pages do not say how often those three bins are emptied.

Food waste and the national recycling rules

Rossendale collects food waste every week. Weekly food collections start from the week commencing 6th April 2026. Do not put the caddy out before then. Homes get a 5-litre kitchen caddy and a 23-litre lockable caddy. Areas collected with a small vehicle were due caddies in May 2026 and collections in June 2026. Until a home's round starts, food stays in the green bin. Put the caddy out by 6.45am.

Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. The garden waste page says £50 a year for one bin and £30 for each extra bin, for nine months from March to the end of November, with no part-year discount. The what-goes-in pages still say £48 a year for one bin. Pay by card online or on 01706 217777. Fortnightly. A permit goes on the rear of the bin. The page said stickers were delayed into early March and that a bin could still go out on the first March collection if the sticker had not arrived. Put it out by 6.45am.

If your bin was missed

The green, blue, grey and brown bin pages do not give a missed-collection form or a deadline. Garden subscription calls go to 01706 217777 in office hours. Food caddy liners, if you forget to tie one to the outdoor caddy, can be collected free from the libraries and leisure sites named on the food page, one roll per household per visit.

Good to know in Rossendale

  • Blue bin items have to be clean and empty. Glass lids stay on. Grey bin shredded paper should sit in a box or a paper bag. Tetra Paks are in the blue bin list and in the grey bin's leave-out list.
  • The garden fee is not the same on every page. The garden waste page says £50, and £30 for another bin, March to the end of November. Each what-goes-in page says £48 for one bin. There is no part-year reduction on the garden page.
  • Food liners are free for residents, not for trade use, from places including Haslingden Community Link, Haslingden Library, Bacup Library, Rawtenstall's Whitaker Museum, Marl Pits, the customer hub at Future Park in Bacup, and Whitworth Civic Hall and library. The food page lists the full set of addresses.
  • The food page says 60% of UK food waste is from households. Communal properties may get a shared 140-litre or 240-litre bin, or their own 23-litre caddy, plus a 5-litre kitchen caddy.
