Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. For 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027 a 140L bin is £46.50 a year and a 240L bin is £67.00. If you need a bin delivered, the admin fee is £31.00 for 140L and £41.00 for 240L. The full fee applies whenever you join. Cancelling during the year does not get a refund. A lost or stolen bin on an active subscription is replaced free. Fortnightly. The council aims to deliver a new bin within 10 working days, and collection starts on the first scheduled day after it arrives. Customer services are on 01932 838383.

If your bin was missed

Use the missed bin form. If the street was blocked, leave the bin out and the page says crews return within 48 hours. A bin that was not out, was the wrong bin, was frozen or jammed, or was too heavy waits until the next scheduled day, after you have made it collectable. Excess sacks around the black bin are not taken. A contaminated recycling, garden or food bin has to be sorted. A damaged bin is repaired or replaced, and you bag the waste until then. The missed page gives 48 hours only for a street that was blocked. It does not give a general number of days for every other miss.

Good to know in Runnymede

  • The standard black bin is one 180L bin per household. A damaged 240L refuse bin is replaced with 180L. Extra refuse bins are only for special cases and a yearly charge may apply, currently £103. Extra recycling bins and food caddies are free. A new 180L refuse bin costs £77.00. A new 240L recycling bin costs £41.50.
  • Recycling must be clean, dry and loose. Extra recycling can go in a clean, dry cardboard box next to the bin. The page says the next collection can also take cartons, empty aerosols, foil, foil trays, non-black plastic plant pots and squeezy metal tubes. Plastic carrier bags are not accepted in the recycling bin. The same page says to use them as liners in the green food caddy.
  • Food crews also take a carrier-bag-sized bundle of textiles, small electricals or household batteries every week, bagged and labelled, next to the caddy. In wet weather the page recommends double bagging textiles. Light bulbs stay off that collection.
  • If you move, leave the food caddy at the property. Garden waste is different: if you move within Runnymede the garden page says you can take the garden bins with you. Other bins remain council property.
  • Garden waste has to be loose. Fallen fruit is accepted only if the bin is not too heavy to lift. Japanese knotweed is refused. There is no part-year price.
  • A blocked street is the case where the missed page says to leave the bin out for a return within 48 hours. For a bin that was not presented, the same page asks for it by 6:00am on the next scheduled day, labelled with the house name or number, at the nearest vehicle access point. Contamination and excess waste are not collected as a return visit.
