Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. The annual subscription is £99 per bin, and a household can have as many bins as it needs. That buys 24 fortnightly collections. Bins are sent within 10 days of payment, and the year starts on the first collection. Pay online by debit or credit card, or call 0208 770 5000, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. The service breaks for four weeks over the festive period, from Wednesday 6 January 2027 to Sunday 31 January 2027, and starts again on Monday 1 February 2027. Christmas trees are collected in that break. The bin has to be at the edge of the property, not on the pavement, by 6 am.

If your bin was missed

Report a missed bin, box or caddy online, then leave it at the front of the property, close to the pavement but not on it. The crew will not come back if it was not out before 6:00 am, held the wrong waste, or was too heavy. After a successful report, a crew returns within two working days. Wait until after 6:00 pm on the collection day. Crews work until 6:00 pm. The report has to be within two working days, Monday to Friday.

Good to know in Sutton

  • House containers go at the boundary, in line with the footpath but not on it, by 6:00 am. The food service is a small indoor caddy and a larger outdoor caddy with a lockable lid. Line the indoor caddy with a compostable liner or newspaper, not a plastic bag. Cut flowers are on the food list. Garden waste is not.
  • Paper and card must be clean and dry. Extra card can be flat-packed and kept dry beside the green bin. The box takes rinsed bottles, pots, tubs, trays, glass, cans, aerosols, tin foil and cartons. Rigid plastics such as toys and plant pots stay out of the box. The council runs a strict one-bin policy for each stream. A larger bin can be requested where medical needs create extra waste, or where a large family needs more capacity.
  • Flats above shops use council bags twice a week, one blue-stripe recycling bag and one red-stripe rubbish bag each time. A different bag can be treated as fly-tipping. Those red bags may hold food waste. Bag supplies are delivered every 3 months, and extra red bags are not provided. Side and rear collections are not made from houses.
  • Garden waste must be loose in the bin. Anything else in the bin, or waste left beside it, is not taken. The accepted list stops at branches of 22cm diameter, which the page also gives as 8 inches, and refuses branches over 30cm. There is no stated bin colour on the garden pages.
  • As of 3 October 2026 the centre page gave the address as Household Reuse and Recycle Centre, Kimpton Park Way, off Oldfields Road, A217, Sutton, SM3 9QH. Cars, pedestrians and bicycles can use the reuse site and shop Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm, and Sunday 9am to 2pm. Christmas Eve is 9am to 12pm. Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day are closed. Other bank holidays are 9am to 5pm. Vans and large vehicles are Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm and Saturday 9am to 12:30pm, with no Sunday or bank holiday access. A time slot has to be booked. Business and trade waste is refused, including gardening or building work done by someone who is not the homeowner.
