Wyre bin collection days

Wyre collects rubbish and recycling on the same day each week, with a grey bin for waste that cannot be recycled. A paid green bin is for garden waste. Weekly food caddies started in April 2026. The container page that loaded describes the grey bin and does not list the recycling.

Food waste and the national recycling rules

Wyre collects food waste every week. Weekly food collections commenced on 13 April 2026, on the same day as the other bins, after a requirement dated 31 March 2026. Put the caddy out by 7am. Households should have a 5L kitchen caddy, liners, and a 23L outdoor bin. The page says food waste is 70% water, and that methane from landfill is 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide. It does not list which foods are accepted or refused.

Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. The green waste page says you subscribe, and that the bin itself is not included. It does not print a price. You can still join for collections before 30 June 2026 by calling 01253 891000. Subscriptions for 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 can be taken at any time in the year. A neighbour can share, but one property has to register and pay. There are 22 fortnightly green waste collections per year, with a brief closure over the festive period. Collection dates stay the same as the other bins. Only garden waste goes in the green bin. The page does not name grasses, leaves or branches. You need a myWyre account to sign up.

If your bin was missed

Collections can happen any time between 7am and 5pm. A bin can be missed because it was not out, was in the wrong place, held the wrong materials, or had side waste, or because the round is not finished. There is a separate form for a missed food caddy. Veolia runs the refuse and recycling service. Nothing is collected on Christmas Day or Boxing Day. The refuse page says the council will say in advance if a day changes. A missed bin cannot be reported until the day after it was due, and it must be reported within two working days of the scheduled day.

Good to know in Wyre

  • The refuse page says rubbish and recycling are collected on the same day each week, except Christmas Day and Boxing Day, by Veolia. It does not list recycling materials. The household recycling page says there are many items you can recycle and points at the container guide. The container page that opened is only the grey bin: household rubbish you cannot recycle, and nappies only in that bin.
  • Grey-bin rejects are DIY paint and oil, hazardous chemicals and garden sprays, bricks and rubble, electrical items, and soil, turf and compost. Those go to a household waste recycling centre. Soil, turf and compost are called out because they make the bin too heavy for the lift.
  • The food page does not say which leftovers, peelings or bones can go in the caddy. It does say the service is weekly, started on 13 April 2026, uses a 5L kitchen caddy and a 23L outdoor bin, and should be out by 7am on the normal collection day. Food is processed by anaerobic digestion.
  • Green waste is 22 fortnightly green waste collections a year, for the period 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027, plus a festive closure. The page does not show the fee and does not list plants. The bin is not part of the subscription. An earlier period, before 30 June 2026, is still available by phone on 01253 891000.
  • Missed bins are reported the day after, within two working days. The crew works 7am to 5pm. A missed food caddy has its own form. The food page does not add a different deadline.
  • As of 3 October 2026 the recycling container sections linked from the recycling page are batteries, small electrical items, clothes and a short food pointer, not a mixed recycling yes and no list.
