Aberdeenshire bin collection days

Aberdeenshire households have a black refuse bin, a blue-lidded bin and an orange-lidded bin, each emptied every 3 weeks, plus a food caddy that is collected every week. The same weekday is used for the household, and bins should be out by 7am.

Good to know in Aberdeenshire

  • The council describes the service as a weekly kerbside collection because the food caddy and battery bags come every week, while the blue-lidded, orange-lidded and black bins rotate every 3 weeks. It is not one bin emptied every week.
  • The blue-lidded bin is paper, card and cardboard only. The orange-lidded bin takes metal tins, cans, aerosols and foil, food and drink cartons, and plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays.
  • Glass bottles and jars are not collected from the house. The council points people to glass and textiles recycling points. Garden waste is also not collected; recycling centres take it.
  • Food caddy liners and battery bags can be picked up from places the council lists for bin equipment. The myAberdeenshire app can send a reminder, and a myAberdeenshire account can show the next collection days.
  • In stormy weather the council asks people who secure a lid to use a strap made for bins, not an improvised fixing. There is a separate page for how to put bins out.
  • Collection days for a particular address are on the council's online waste collections checker, not printed as one calendar for the whole of Aberdeenshire.

Bin questions in Aberdeenshire

How often are Aberdeenshire bins emptied?

The blue-lidded bin, the orange-lidded bin and the black refuse bin are each collected every 3 weeks, on the same day of the week. The food caddy and battery bags are collected every week.

Does Aberdeenshire collect food waste?

Yes. The food caddy is collected weekly and takes tea bags, coffee grounds, leftovers, meal preparation waste, out-of-date food including meat and fish, and compostable packaging, cups and cutlery.

What if a house has no room for wheelie bins?

The household waste pages say you can ask for a bag collection when there is no storage space for wheeled bins. The same section explains that glass bottles, jars and garden waste are not collected from the kerbside.

Is garden waste collected in Aberdeenshire?

Not from the kerbside. The household collections page says the council does not collect garden waste and that you can take it to a recycling centre. Glass is the same: bottles and jars go to a glass recycling point, not the bins.
