Angus bin collection days

Angus uses a purple bin, or white sacks, for rubbish that cannot be recycled, collected fortnightly. The grey bin takes plastics, cans and cartons every four weeks, and the blue paper and card bin is every four weeks on the alternate fortnight. Glass goes to a recycling point. Brown is food and green is garden waste, and the green bin needs a sticker.

Check your bin day

Use Angus’s own page for your bin day

The council's bin collection date finder needs a browser, which BinWeek's lookup service does not run, so the page links to the council's own finder.

Set your own bin day

These dates are the ones you enter. BinWeek does not get them from Angus. Check them on the council’s site (opens in a new tab) (www.angus.gov.uk).

Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. The missed-bin page says not to report a green garden waste bin that has no valid sticker, and to register for the garden waste service to get a sticker. It does not state the price. The green item list was not on the page that loaded.

If your bin was missed

Check the bin calendar, that the bin was out by 7am, and that there is no contamination tag. Do not report a bin already on the known-missed list, or a green garden bin without a valid sticker. The report link says to wait until after 4.30pm. If you forgot to put the bin out, it waits until the next collection. Towns are the aim for a return; rural areas take longer. Do not report a miss more than two working days later. The aim is a return within two working days in towns and three working days in rural areas.

Good to know in Angus

  • Purple is the rubbish bin. Bag the waste before it goes in, keep the lid closed, and do not squash it so hard that it will not empty. Bricks and turf go to a recycling centre, not the purple bin.
  • White sacks replace a bin where there is no room. The council provides a set amount of bags each year, equivalent to a wheeled bin, and extra bags are considered against the extra-bin policy.
  • The grey bin must be clean, loose and dry, with no plastic bag around the items. Rinse food off. Medical waste and sharps never go in it.
  • The blue bin is collected every four weeks, on the alternate fortnight from the grey bin. Wrapping paper that springs back in a scrunch test is plastic and goes in the purple bin.
  • The brown food and green garden sections are named in the contents list. The green garden item list did not come back on the page that was opened. The missed-bin page is clear that a green bin without a valid sticker is not a missed bin.
  • Known misses are listed before you report. Bin-lorry cameras can be checked for whether the bin was out by 7am. Commercial misses use a different form, and the commercial day is via commwaste@angus.gov.uk.

Bin questions in Angus

How often is the Angus purple bin emptied?

Fortnightly. The grey plastics, cans and cartons bin is every four weeks, and the blue paper and card bin is every four weeks on the alternate fortnight.

When can I report a missed Angus bin?

After 4.30pm, if it was out by 7am, it is not on the known-missed list, and it is not more than two working days since the collection. The aim is two working days in towns and three working days in rural areas.

Where does glass go in Angus?

To a glass recycling point, not the grey or purple bin. The grey page says to use that point for bottles and jars, and a separate glass page for Pyrex, mirrors and lightbulbs.
