Blaby bin collection days

Blaby collects refuse and recycling on alternate weeks, so each is fortnightly, and food waste every week on the same weekday since 30 March 2026. Garden waste is a paid brown-lidded bin, emptied with the recycling between March and November only. Nothing beside a bin is taken, and that has included cardboard since 1 November 2025.

Food waste and the national recycling rules

Blaby collects food waste every week. Weekly food waste collections started on 30 March 2026, on the same day as other bins but in a separate vehicle. Caddy packs were delivered in February and March 2026. The council asked residents not to put the caddy out until after 23 March 2026. Flats with a bin store get a kitchen caddy and a communal food bin.

Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. A small 140-litre brown-lidded bin is £33.00 a year and a large 240-litre bin is £48.00 a year, per bin. Changing size after you have subscribed is £15.00 a year. A phone order adds a £2.50 transaction fee. There is no pro-rata price, and no refund if you stop or move out of the district. Collections are every two weeks, on the same day as recycling, between March and November. There are no collections in December, January or February. The subscription is 20 collections, fixed from 1 April to 31 March. Subscribe by 16 March to be collected from 1 April. Direct Debit renews if you signed up by 15 February. From 2026 the council no longer issues stickers.

If your bin was missed

Report a missed bin on the council's form and leave it out until it is collected. The crew will not return for a bin that was not at the boundary, was overloaded, blocked, or held items that are not accepted. A hanger is left when the contents are wrong. Report a miss within two working days of the crew visiting the street. The council aims to come back within two working days. Bins must be out by 6.30am.

Good to know in Blaby

  • Recycling goes to Casepak. The council's list is specific about film: clean carrier bags, bubble wrap and cling film are accepted, but black plastic, crisp packets and metallised pouches are not. Shredded paper must be in a clear bag inside the bin.
  • Batteries go in a sandwich bag on top of the recycling bin. Car batteries, industrial batteries, motorbike batteries, disposable vapes and battery lighters are not taken there.
  • Homes that cannot store a wheelie bin get refuse sacks free of charge, delivered every six months. Replacement bins may be charged if they were damaged on purpose, stolen or reported missing. Wear and tear is not charged.
  • Food caddies may arrive on any weekday, not only the collection day. Use a liner, tie it, and put it in the outside caddy by 6.30am. The food vehicle is not the same one as the other bins.
  • Garden subscriptions become active within 24 hours of payment. Only a bin with a valid subscription is emptied. If you move inside the district you can transfer the subscription, but you must not take the bin with you.
  • Household waste sites are a Leicestershire County Council service. Blaby's recycling page points residents there for small appliances, kettles, toasters, vapes and battery lighters.
