Bolsover bin collection days

Bolsover uses a black bin for rubbish, a burgundy bin for recycling and a green bin for garden waste, on a fortnightly rotation. From 30 March 2026 a food caddy is collected every week. Green bin collections are suspended for the winter on the bins page we read. Everything goes out by 6am with the lid shut.

Food waste and the national recycling rules

Bolsover collects food waste every week. From 30 March 2026 the council added a food caddy, collected every week, out by 6am. Food goes in the caddy rather than the green bin. Uncooked peelings such as lettuce, cabbage leaves or potato peelings are not treated as contamination in the green bin during the transition the food page describes. Cooked food is not accepted in the green bin. The caddy is brown. Wrong items are left with a note, not collected.

Garden waste

Garden waste is collected free of charge. The pages we read do not describe an annual garden subscription. A property with no green bin has to buy one for £33.65 including VAT. A missing black bin is the same price. Black, burgundy and green bins are fortnightly: black one week, green and burgundy the next. The bins page says green collections are currently suspended for the winter. Two calendars, A and B, cover different villages.

If your bin was missed

Report a missed bin on the council's self service portal. The bin pages do not state how many days you have to report it. The crew will not take extra bags or boxes, and a contaminated burgundy or green bin may be refused. Put the bin at the edge of the property, where it meets the pavement, by 6am, with the lid shut. The food caddy uses the same 6am deadline and is taken back to the spot it was collected from.

Good to know in Bolsover

  • The black bin is for everyday household waste. The page does not publish a long list of accepted rubbish. It does say no extra bags or boxes. A new black bin, if the property has none, costs £33.65 including VAT. The phone line for bin orders is 01246 242424, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm, excluding bank holidays.
  • Burgundy recycling includes glass bottles and jars, paper and card, cans, aerosols, cartons, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, and soft plastics tied in a clear bag. Batteries go in a tied clear bag on the lid, not inside the bin and not tied to the handle. Carrier bags must not be used to hold cans or bottles. A little extra recycling can sit in a box or clear bag beside the bin, and flattened cardboard can too.
  • The green bin takes cuttings, leaves, flowers and weeds. It does not take food, soil, plastic or cardboard. Those last items are pointed at the burgundy bin or the food caddy. Cooked food is refused in the green bin. A new green bin is also £33.65 including VAT.
  • Food caddy liners that are only marked for home composting are refused. Bags need the commercial or industrial standard EN 13432/14955. The council suggests a 30ltr to 35ltr liner but says any size can be used. The caddy stays with the property. You can choose not to use it, and the council says it will not take unused caddies back.
  • The bins page does not give one collection day for the whole district. Calendar A and Calendar B cover different towns and villages. Check the calendar for your area. Assisted collections are available if nobody in the home can put the bin out.
  • The black, burgundy and green pages tell you to report a miss on self service. They do not say whether that has to be the same day or within a set number of working days.
