Blaenau Gwent bin collection days

Blaenau Gwent's English how-to page says all recycling is collected every week, and then lists what that weekly round cannot take. It does not list, in the HTML, what the recycling sack or box should contain. That yes-list is not on the pages read here. The black bin's frequency is not stated either. Green waste is a free fortnightly sack from Monday 30th March 2026 to Friday 6th November 2026.

Check your bin day

Use Blaenau Gwent’s own page for your bin day

The council's bin collection date finder needs a browser, which BinWeek's lookup service does not run, so the page links to the council's own finder.

Set your own bin day

These dates are the ones you enter. BinWeek does not get them from Blaenau Gwent. Check them on the council’s site (opens in a new tab) (www.blaenau-gwent.gov.uk).

Garden waste

Garden waste is collected free of charge. You no longer register for the green-waste round. A new or replacement council sack costs £2.20, and those sacks can be ordered from Monday 23rd March. Green sacks are collected fortnightly from Monday 30th March 2026 to Friday 6th November 2026. Put them out before 7am. There is no winter round after Friday 6th November 2026, and 2027 dates are not confirmed. While the round is off, the page names New Vale in Ebbw Vale and Roseheyworth in Abertillery, which the page spells Abertilley. The page does not list grass, leaves or plants.

If your bin was missed

The waste and recycling page says to report a missed collection with the council's online service, and that the form does not work in Internet Explorer. It does not give a deadline. Use Chrome, Edge or Safari. The collection-day checker linked from that page is a separate system, and the English HTML pages do not state a black-bin frequency to compare a miss against.

Good to know in Blaenau Gwent

  • The weekly round cannot take bulky cardboard that will not fit the sack, plastic film, stretch plastic, sticky-back plastic, arts and crafts materials, plastic straws and cutlery, large plastics such as watering cans and garden furniture, broken glass, crisp packets, sweet and biscuit wrappers, metallic gift wrap, large metals, dirty or shredded textiles, and duvets and pillows.
  • Sweet wrappers, metallic gift wrap and dirty textiles are the items the how-to page explicitly sends to the black bin or black bags. Crisp packets are named as not collected on the recycling round, with a note that some charities take them, rather than an instruction to use the black bin.
  • From Monday 17 April 2023, household batteries go in a small reusable white bag from a community hub in a library. Single-use bags are no longer the battery container.
  • Old blue and clear bags from the previous service are refused because they jam the baling machinery. Bags are only for keeping textiles and clothing dry.
  • The food waste bags page does not say how often food is collected or which foods the caddy takes. It says that if you have run out of council liners you can reuse bread bags, sandwich bags, frozen-food bags, cereal bags and ordinary supermarket carrier bags, but not bags for life, and it lists shops and libraries where liners can be picked up.
  • Putting recyclable items in black bins and bags can lead to a fixed penalty of £100, or a court appearance. The penalty page says the authority does not want to issue them.
  • Green sacks must be the council's. Blue hessian recycling sacks and ton bags are left. New sacks are £2.20 from Monday 23rd March. There is no winter collection after Friday 6th November 2026. The sack page does not say whether the sack is for grass, leaves or branches.
  • Missed collections and collection days are both online forms linked from the waste page. The day checker is not a page on blaenau-gwent.gov.uk, so the frequency of the black bin is recorded here as varying until the council states it.

Bin questions in Blaenau Gwent

How often is the Blaenau Gwent black bin emptied?

The English pages we could read do not say. They tell you to check refuse and recycling collection days from the waste and recycling page. They do say recycling is collected every week.

When are Blaenau Gwent green sacks collected?

Fortnightly from Monday 30th March 2026 to Friday 6th November 2026, out before 7am, in a council green sack only. You do not register. A replacement sack is £2.20. There is no winter service after that November date.

Where do Blaenau Gwent food-caddy liners come from?

The food waste bags page does not say how often food is collected or which foods the caddy takes. If the council liners have run out, it allows bread bags, sandwich bags, frozen-food bags, cereal bags and ordinary supermarket carrier bags, but not bags for life. It also lists the shops and libraries that hand the liners out.

What if I keep putting recycling in the black bin?

The council can issue a fixed penalty of £100, or you can end up in court. The page says it does not want to issue those penalties. The how-to page still does not give the full list of what the weekly recycling containers take.
