Bridgend bin collection days

Bridgend collects recycling every week in sorted bags and caddies: an orange bag for cardboard, a white bag for paper, a blue bag for plastics, cans and foil, brown caddies for food and a black caddy for glass. Non-recyclable waste goes out fortnightly in bags you buy yourself, two bags of no more than 60 litres per collection. Everything goes to the kerb before 7am and no earlier than 7pm the night before.

If your bin was missed

Collections run between 7am and 5pm, so wait until after 5pm on the collection day, check the council's collection updates page, then report online: enter your postcode, pick the address, choose 'Recycling collection' or 'Refuse Sacks collection', and say which container was missed and whether it was stickered. Your nearest tip

Good to know in Bridgend

  • From 1 April the council stopped supplying blue refuse sacks. Households now buy their own bags of up to 60 litres. The two-bag fortnightly limit still applies; a household of six or seven can apply for one extra bag, eight or more for two, and homes heated mainly by an ash-producing coal fire for one more.
  • Bags put out before 7pm the night before or left out at other times can attract a £100 fixed penalty notice under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, and the council warns about blocking pavements.
  • Extra-large cardboard can be left next to the orange sack. Textiles and paired shoes, batteries, phones, spectacles and screen-free small electricals are all collected weekly if they are put out in a carrier bag.
  • The food caddy system has two parts: a small brown kitchen caddy lined with a green compostable bag, emptied into the larger brown caddy that goes to the kerb. The council delivers a year's supply of green bags to households annually and more can be ordered online.
  • Barbecue and firepit gas, coals and ash, vapes, lighters, spray paint, expanding foam and other canisters must not go in any kerbside bag because of the fire risk; cool ash and take them to a recycling centre. Clinical waste and sharps are not collected by the council at all and go through Cwm Taf University Health Board.
  • Registered households can have nappies, incontinence pads, colostomy bags, plastic sheets, gloves, aprons and wipes collected fortnightly on the refuse day through the Absorbent Hygiene Product service. Feminine hygiene products are not included.
  • Garden waste is a paid subscription at £52.94 a year (£47.65 for pensioners) with fortnightly collections from 16 March to 13 November 2026, and extra sacks at £6.51 each. Subscriptions move with you if you move within the county borough.
  • The three recycling centres at Pyle, Maesteg and Brynmenyn open 9.00am to 4pm but each closes one weekday (Pyle on Tuesday, Maesteg on Thursday, Brynmenyn on Wednesday) and gates can shut up to 20 minutes early. General waste bags must be split and sorted on site. Pyle and Maesteg have reuse shops run with Plan B and Groundwork Wales.
  • Vans, pick-ups and trailers between 5ft and 6ft 6in need a free tipping permit from 01656 643643 at least 48 hours ahead and may only use Pyle or Maesteg; Brynmenyn takes no vans or trailers. Construction waste is limited to four bags of 17kg each with no repeat visit within 30 days, and asbestos goes only to the Pyle skip with a permit and a charge.
