Ceredigion bin collection days

Ceredigion collects a clear recycling bag and a food caddy every week, and glass every 3 weeks. Leftover rubbish is a maximum of 3 standard bags every three weeks. You supply those bags. Garden waste is a paid logo bag, fortnightly, all year, not a wheeled bin.

Last checked against 6 sources (www.ceredigion.gov.uk).

Use Ceredigion’s own page for your bin day

The council's bin collection date finder needs a browser, which BinWeek's lookup service does not run, so the page links to the council's own finder.

Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. Bags with the council logo cost £2.30 each, from the libraries at Aberystwyth, Aberaeron, Cardigan, Lampeter and Llandysul. Buying the bag is how you pay for the collection. Household waste sites take garden waste free of charge. The collection is fortnightly and runs all year. Bags should be tied, no heavier than 20Kg, and out by 8am. Book online or phone 01545 570881, and you can raise the number of bags until midday the day before. There is no set limit, but a much larger number than you booked may be left if the lorry is full.

If your bin was missed

Put waste out on the morning of collection, before 8am. The service is usually between 8am and 4pm, and sometimes outside those hours, so Ceredigion says not to report a missed bin until the day after the scheduled collection. Infectious-waste tissues, cloths, face coverings, gloves and other PPE go in the black bags, and those bags should be double bagged. Not until the day after the scheduled collection.

Good to know in Ceredigion

  • Clear bags must be loaded loose. Do not put a bag inside the clear bag. Wash food packaging. Glass is refused from the clear bag and has its own box. Crisp packets and chocolate wrappers are residual waste, while plastic bags and film are accepted in the clear bag, which is the opposite of several other Welsh kerbside schemes.
  • The glass box takes bottles and jars of any colour. Rinse them. Labels, lids and corks can stay. Do not fill above the rim, and do not wait until the box is full. Pyrex, drinking glasses and window glass are refused.
  • Residual bags are standard 60 litre sacks, no larger than a clear bag, and no heavier than 20Kg. The usual cap is 3 bags. They can sit inside a bin if they are tied. Absorbent hygiene waste from registered customers is extra, in the hygiene bags. There is no cap on correctly used clear bags, the food bin or the glass box.
  • The food containers are a 7 litre kitchen caddy and a lockable 23 litre outdoor caddy. Use the council liners only. A yellow tag on the outdoor caddy on collection day is the request for another roll, or you can collect liners from a community recycling hub. Cooled cooking oil is allowed in small amounts. The residual page says clear bags and food are weekly so that food is not stored for 3 weeks.
  • Present everything before 8am. Do not report a miss until the next day, because crews sometimes work outside the usual 8am to 4pm window.
  • Garden bags are £2.30 from five named libraries: Aberystwyth, Aberaeron, Cardigan, Lampeter and Llandysul. Book the collection, including an approximate number of bags, on 01545 570881 or online. Real Christmas trees are listed as garden waste. Soil and the named invasive plants are not. Sites take garden waste without the bag charge.
  • A new resident is told to ask for a recycling pack. The old English collection-calendar address on the GOV.UK side of the council's record is not the page that describes this service. The English pages used here are the current resident bins section.

Bin questions in Ceredigion

How many black bags can a Ceredigion household put out?

Up to 3 standard bags every three weeks, about 60 litres each, and not heavier than 20Kg. You buy them. Extra bags are stickered and left. If you are away, you still only put out 3 bags next time; the page says you cannot save them up as 6 bags.

How do Ceredigion garden bags work?

Buy logo bags at £2.30 from a council library, fill them with leaves, grass, plants, cuttings, flowers, hedge clippings or a real Christmas tree, and book a fortnightly collection. They go out by 8am, tied, and no heavier than 20Kg. Phone 01545 570881.

When should I report a missed Ceredigion bin?

The day after. Waste should have been out before 8am. Crews usually work 8am to 4pm but sometimes do not, so a same-day report is too soon.
