Conwy bin collection days

Conwy's refuse bin is emptied every 4 weeks. The council's own questions say the black wheelie bin has room if you use the weekly food and recycling services, the fortnightly garden, textile and electrical collections, and a nappy caddy when you need one. Sorting is built around a Trolibocs stack, with bags as the alternative for some materials.

Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. Bryson Recycling runs the garden round for the council. It costs £46 for 12 months and that price includes one 240l wheelie bin. Up to 3 extra bins are £26 each, with a £20 delivery charge for those extra bins. Subscriptions start in April. Joining later still costs the full 12 month charge. There is no one-off collection and no discount. The round is fortnightly. The council says a 240l bin holds about the equivalent of 2 old garden waste bags, and those bags were 120l. The same page says a household recycling centre is a free alternative, open 7 days a week from 9am to 4pm.

If your bin was missed

If you will be away for the 4 weekly refuse collection and nobody can put the bin out, Conwy asks you to get in touch in advance so they can arrange a collection. Exceptional cases, such as a family emergency where you could not call ahead, go to the customer service team on 01492 575337. The missed-collection form is linked from the recycling and waste page. That form page did not publish a cut-off time in the text we could read.

Good to know in Conwy

  • The top box or green bag takes paper and thin card. Brown cardboard has its own bag. The middle box or white bag takes rinsed, squashed plastics, cartons, cans and foil, and not plastic bags or hard plastics. The bottom box or green box is bottles and jars only.
  • A wrong item in a Trolibocs is left behind. Soft plastic is not a kerbside material. Conwy points to supermarket collection points and the Wales Recycles site for film and bags.
  • The refuse bin is where plastic bags, film, animal waste, crisp packets, polystyrene and nappies go, plus securely wrapped broken glass and crockery. Incandescent bulbs go in that bin too.
  • Purple textile bags and pink small-electrical bags come from Crest. The container page gives Crest as 01492 596783 or info@crestcooperative.co.uk, and says rural residents should call to book. Bags can also be picked up at a library. Podback is a separate sign-up: white bags for aluminium pods and green bags for plastic pods.
  • Households of 6 or more can ask for a second black bin if they are already recycling fully. Fewer than 6 people who are stuck for space use an online form. The nappy and incontinence caddy is free and weekly, with liners, via erf@conwy.gov.uk or 01492 575337.
  • A year-long trial of 4 weekly collections covered 10,000 households. Conwy says those homes recycled 14% more and put 31% less rubbish in the wheelie bin.
  • Saturday mobile centres on the garden page run 9am to 11am at Cerrigydrudion on the 1st Saturday, Llanrwst on the 2nd, and Llangernyw on the 3rd.
  • Bryson's number for the garden bin is 01492 555898. The customer service number on the refuse questions is 01492 575337.

Bin questions in Conwy

How often is the Conwy black bin emptied?

Every 4 weeks. Food and recycling are weekly, and garden waste, textiles and electricals are fortnightly. The council's table adds the visits in that cycle up as 13 collections every 4 weeks.

What does the Conwy garden bin cost?

£46 for 12 months, including one 240l bin, collected fortnightly by Bryson Recycling. Extra bins, up to 3, are £26 each, and delivering those extras costs £20. You pay the full year even if you join after April. There is no single collection and no discount.

Do I need an appointment for a Conwy household recycling centre?

The recycling and waste page says visits are by appointment, and that you book online. A holiday let at the same address needs a commercial waste collection. The garden waste page, describing somewhere to take garden waste without a subscription, says centres are open 7 days a week from 9am to 4pm with no charge.

What if I miss the 4 weekly Conwy collection?

Ask ahead if you know you will be away, so the bin can still be collected. If a family emergency meant you could not call first, phone 01492 575337 and the council says it will do its best. Waiting without calling means the next refuse visit is another 4 weeks.
