Cannock Chase runs five containers, collected by Biffa: a green bin for rubbish, a blue bin for cans, glass and plastics, a blue bag for paper and card, a paid brown bin for garden waste, and grey caddies for food. Rubbish is a fortnightly 240-litre bin. The blue bin, blue bag and brown bin share a day, every two weeks. Food waste is weekly and started in April 2026.

Cannock Chase collects food waste every week. Weekly food waste collections began in the week commencing 27 April 2026. Households were sent a 7L kitchen caddy, a 23L kerbside caddy and a roll of liners. The council says homes cannot opt out of having the caddies, even if they are not used.
Garden waste is a paid-for service. For 2026 the brown bin subscription is £40 per bin for the year, and the fee is the same whenever you apply. After you pay, the council needs 5 working days before collections start. This year's permit is blue and goes underneath the handle. In 2026 collections started in the week commencing Monday 12 January and run until Friday 27 November 2026. The bin is emptied fortnightly, 23 collections across the year, with a winter break.
Report a missed bin, bag or caddy on the council's online form. Bins and the blue bag go out by 7am at the rear of the footpath, with lids closed. Biffa will not empty a bin if the lid is raised. If a food caddy is missed, leave it out: the council says it will be collected the day after, and you should report it only if it is still there after that. Missed collections should be reported within 24 hours, by the end of the next working day.
Paper and card go in the blue bag, loose or in paper bags, and the bag is collected with the blue bin in a split vehicle. Cartons are not paper: Tetra Pak goes in the green bin, and a bag with cartons in it will not be emptied.
Blue-bin recycling must be loose and rinsed. A bin of bagged recycling is left, and nothing beside the blue bin is taken. The brown bin is also loose: compostable liners are rejected.
Food that used to go in the brown bin now goes in the grey caddies. The what-goes-in page still tells residents not to put tea bags, leftovers or peelings in the brown bin.
A damaged brown bin can be replaced free of charge. You can share the cost with a neighbour, and a subscription can move to a new address in the district. The council will not collect the old brown bin if you move.
Household waste recycling centres are run by Staffordshire County Council, not by Cannock Chase. The district's bin page links to the county's list of sites.
The waste team can be called on 01543 462621. The published address is wasteservies@cannockchasedc.gov.uk, spelled that way on the what-goes-in page.
