Dudley bin collection days

Dudley changed its household collections on 6 April 2026. Food waste is now collected every week, a new blue wheeled bin takes cans, plastic, glass and cartons, and paper and card go in a separate blue bag. Recycling and the black rubbish bin alternate fortnightly, and garden waste is a paid subscription.

Last checked against 6 sources (www.dudleyrecycles.org.uk, dudley.gov.uk).

Service disruption

As of 3 October 2026 the council said it had suspended new bulky waste collections for fridges, freezers and other cooling appliances, and that the tip could not take them either, because of national problems with processing them. Check both pages before booking.

This can change quickly. We last checked on ; the council’s own page has the latest.

Food waste and the national recycling rules

Dudley collects food waste every week. Weekly food waste collections began with the new service on 6 April 2026. Homes get a kitchen caddy with liners and a lockable outdoor kerbside caddy, and the food goes to an anaerobic digestion plant. Most flats and homes with shared bins keep their existing service for now.

Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. The 2026-27 subscription is a one-off payment of £52 by debit or credit card, and the council says the fee is frozen from 2025/26. Bookings are made on MyDudley or by phone. Collections are fortnightly and the 2026-27 service began from 1 April 2026. The council says collections are suspended for only two weeks over the Christmas period. Only bins with a visible permit are collected, and permits arrive within 10 working days of signing up.

If your bin was missed

Use the council's online missed bin form. You can report missed general waste, food waste and recycling from 4pm on the day of collection until 4pm on the next working day. Assisted collections can be reported from 4pm on the day until 4pm two working days later. Missed garden waste is picked up within 7 working days of the report. Bins and bags need to be out by 6am on collection day, and not before 7:30pm the night before.

Good to know in Dudley

  • Dudley's recycling is split in two on purpose: the blue wheeled bin takes cans, plastic, glass and cartons loose, while paper, card and cardboard go in the blue bag. The council says this keeps paper clean enough to sell. Putting recycling in a plastic bag can mean the bin is not taken.
  • The old black box and green bag are no longer needed for the new service. The council suggests keeping the green bag for extra paper and cardboard, and says it may set up drop-off points for boxes and bags people no longer want.
  • Households with babies and toddlers can ask for extra refuse sacks: a roll for each child under 30 months, or older children with special educational needs, disabilities or a medical condition who use nappies. Larger or additional bins for medical waste such as incontinence pads can be requested free of charge with evidence.
  • If your street has had blue bins and you have not, use the council's order a bin form. The council says waits for black and green bin requests are typically up to 15 working days, and up to 4 weeks for box and bag requests.
  • Most flats and homes that share bins keep their current service for now. The council says each flatted property will be assessed individually and residents will be told before the new recycling service reaches them.
  • The tip needs an appointment. The council also runs pop-up tips for cars only on the second and fourth Saturday of each month at Lister Road in Dudley and Northway in Sedgley, with no liquid or hazardous waste accepted.
