Denbighshire bin collection days

Most Denbighshire homes use the Trolibocs, a three-tier stack of boxes for paper, mixed metals, plastics and cartons, and glass, alongside a blue bag for cardboard and an orange food caddy, all collected weekly, with a 240-litre wheelie bin for non-recyclable waste emptied every 4 weeks. Homes that cannot store the stack are on a bag service with weekly non-recyclable collections, and flats share colour-stickered communal bins. Everything goes out by 6:30am.

Your nearest tip

Good to know in Denbighshire

  • The current system began on Monday 3 June 2024, when the council moved to the Trolibocs and a four-weekly non-recyclable collection. Trolibocs households keep one 240-litre wheelie bin for rubbish; the smaller black bins were collected and withdrawn.
  • Bag-service households get a dark blue bag for paper, a red bag for metals, plastics and cartons, a turquoise bag for glass, a blue bag for cardboard and an orange caddy, plus a black reusable bag into which one full single-use pink sack of rubbish goes each week. They cannot join the garden waste service.
  • Communal-bin households sort into black bins with blue, red, turquoise and dark blue stickers, a brown wheelie bin for food and a shared black four-wheeled bin for rubbish, emptied every 4 weeks. Small electricals and bagged batteries go on the floor beside the communal bins.
  • Brown paper is the common mistake: it goes with cardboard in the blue bag, not with paper. Glass goes in the bottom box without tops; metal lids go in the middle box with the cans.
  • Small electricals up to A4 size are collected weekly if left loose on top of the Trolibocs or a reusable bag, with any removable batteries taken out and put in the pink battery clip or a tied single-use bag. Textiles go in a white single-use sack for the council's partner Co-Options Social Enterprises.
  • Nappies and other absorbent hygiene products have a free weekly collection in a black caddy with a purple lid, but you have to register for it. Otherwise they go in the non-recyclable bin.
  • From Monday 14 September 2026 the council is running a 12-week trial of plastic bag and wrapping collections in some areas to work out how best to recycle them.
  • Garden waste is a paid subscription running 1 April to 31 March: £47.25 online for one 140L bin or three dumpy sacks, more for two bins or a retained 240L or 360L bin, and cheaper online than by phone or in person. Collections are fortnightly all year, and the parks take garden waste for free.
  • The three Denbighshire Recycling and Waste Parks (Rhyl, Denbigh and Ruthin) are booking-only and open to Denbighshire and Conwy residents with proof of address; Conwy's Mochdre and Gofer sites are shared the same way. Dee Valley residents can also use Corwen's pop-up on the first and third Saturday mornings each month and Plas Madoc in Wrexham. Vans and twin-axle trailers need a Van Ban permit.
  • Bank holidays do not change collection days except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, and the council keeps a record of bins that were not presented or were contaminated.

How often is non-recyclable waste collected in Denbighshire?

Every 4 weeks in a 240-litre wheelie bin for Trolibocs households and every 4 weeks in a shared black four-wheeled bin for communal-bin households. Homes on the bag service have a weekly collection of one pink sack inside a black reusable bag. Check your own dates on the council's bin collection dates page.

What is the Denbighshire Trolibocs?

A stack of three boxes: the top box with a blue lid for paper, the middle box with a red flap for metal cans, tins, aerosols, foil, plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays, cartons and metal lids, and the bottom box with a green flap for glass bottles and jars. Small electricals sit loosely on top and the pink battery clip attaches to it.

How much is garden waste collection in Denbighshire?

£47.25 a year online (£52.50 offline) for one 140L green bin or three dumpy sacks, £68.25 online (£78.75 offline) for two bins or six sacks, and £68.25 online (£77.25 offline) to keep an existing 240L or 360L bin. Adding a bin or 3 sacks costs £21 online. The year runs 1 April to 31 March with fortnightly collections, and the service is not offered to bag-service households.

When can I report a missed bin in Denbighshire?

From 5pm on the collection day, because crews work until then, and no later than 3pm the next working day, online or on 01824 706 000 from 8:30am. Bins that were not out by 6:30am, were put out on the wrong day or carry a contamination tag are not revisited; confirmed misses are collected within 2 working days (5 working days for garden waste).

Do bank holidays change Denbighshire bin days?

No, apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. On every other bank holiday collections run as normal. Bins go out by 6:30am and should stay out until 5pm.

Do I need to book Denbighshire's recycling parks?

Yes. Book before visiting Marsh Road in Rhyl, Colomendy in Denbigh or Lon Parcwr in Ruthin, and bring proof that you live in Denbighshire or Conwy. Commercial-type vehicles and trailers with more than one axle also need a Van Ban permit, and only household waste is accepted.

Is Denbighshire collecting plastic bags and wrapping?

Only in a trial. From Monday 14 September 2026 the council is running a 12-week trial in some parts of the county to find the best way to collect and recycle plastic bags and wrapping. Elsewhere they still go in the non-recyclable waste or to a shop collection point.
