East Dunbartonshire bin collection days

Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. A garden waste permit costs £52 per green bin. The charge is a flat annual rate even if you join part way through the year, and there is no refund if you cancel mid-season. The season runs from March to November. A permit covers 38 weeks and 19 collections. It can take up to 14 days to process a permit and send the sticker, and the bin is not emptied until the sticker is on it. The council says the frequency for permit holders stays fortnightly.

If your bin was missed

Check the bin was at the kerbside from 7am on the right day, that the lid was fully closed, that a recycling bin held the right items, and that access was not blocked. If it still was not emptied, use the missed bin form. Missed bins must be reported within 48 hours.

Your nearest tip

Good to know in East Dunbartonshire

  • The council's own slogan on the what-goes-in page is Right Bin? Put it in. Wrong items mean the load cannot be recycled.
  • Food may be collected on a different day from the grey bin or the recycling. The bins page sends you to a street, house or postcode search rather than one timetable for the whole area.
  • A first or replacement grey general waste bin costs £55.00. Council policy is one domestic grey bin per property. Removal of bins is free because the bins stay council property.
  • Vapes, anything with a plug, battery or cable, and gas canisters for barbecues, heaters, camping stoves or helium balloons must stay out of every household bin. Book them into Mavis Valley, or use a shop take-back for electricals. Energy-saving light bulbs also go to Mavis Valley; tell staff when you arrive.
  • Garden permits are £52 per green bin for the 2026 season, March to November, with 19 collections over 38 weeks. Only a green bin with a valid sticker is emptied. Flats that already share a garden bin can keep sharing, but one resident has to pay.
  • Help moving bins to the kerb is available if age, the type of home, health or a disability makes it difficult. An appeal against a refusal goes to Waste within ten working days on 0300 123 4510.
  • Rinse and squash plastics, and empty and rinse cans, before they go in the brown bin. Plastic bags are accepted in that brown bin, which is unusual compared with many other councils.
