Newcastle-under-Lyme bin collection days

Newcastle-under-Lyme puts cans, plastics, glass, cartons and loose bags in the recycling bin, and paper and card in a separate bag rather than that bin. The household rubbish bin is for what is left, including polystyrene and bagged nappies, tissues and pet bedding. The rubbish page does not say how often it is emptied. Garden waste is a paid brown-lidded bin, fortnightly from February to December. The container pages read here do not describe a food caddy. Food is on the rubbish no list.

Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. A single garden waste subscription from 1 January 2026 is £43.59. If there is no brown-lidded bin, delivery is another £32.70. An extra bin also has a £32.70 delivery charge. There is no discount for joining later in the year. A damaged bin, including one that falls into the vehicle, is replaced free. Collections are fortnightly between February and December. The subscription always runs to the end of December. A sticker is put on the bin, and collections start on the first scheduled day after you pay. Only borough properties can join.

If your bin was missed

The missed-collection page does not give a form deadline. It says that if the crew could not collect, the council already knows and has a plan to return. Cameras on the vehicles are used to check reports. A garden bin without a valid subscription, a bin that was too heavy, blocked by parked cars, or not visible from the road, may be why it was left. Bad weather is posted on the extreme weather page. Crutches, wheelchairs and walking frames go to the Leycett household waste recycling centre, which Staffordshire County Council runs, for reuse through Grace Cares. Sharps and infectious waste are not collected. Ask the hospital or GP. Put the bin, bag or caddy at the kerbside by 6.00 a.m. The page also writes that time as 6:00 a.m. Check the day on the collection finder, including Christmas and New Year changes.

Good to know in Newcastle-under-Lyme

  • A standard rubbish bin holds 180 litres and belongs to the council. Keep it inside the boundary between collections. New bins, and replacements for lost bins, are charged for delivery. The page does not print that delivery price. Extra rubbish that does not fit is the householder's to take away. The tip named for that, and for mobility equipment, is Leycett.
  • The recycling page says not to bag the recycling, and also lists loose plastic bags and wrappers as accepted. Paper and card are the exception: order the free bag rather than putting them in the recycling bin. Takeaway drinks cups stay out. The same page does not say how often the recycling bin is collected.
  • Garden waste for 2026 is £43.59, plus £32.70 if a brown-lidded bin has to be delivered. The year always ends in December, with no part-year discount. Collections start on the next scheduled day after payment. An unsafe bin, or one that falls into the lorry, is replaced free.
  • The missed page says the service makes over 500,000 collections a month with a 99% success rate. It does not tell you how many hours you have to report a miss. It asks you to check the time, the day, the contents, access, weight and, for garden waste, the subscription.
  • As of 3 October 2026 these pages did not list what the paper and card bag takes beyond paper and card, and they did not describe a weekly food collection.
