Pembrokeshire bin collection days

Pembrokeshire runs a kerbside-sort recycling service collected every week: a blue sack for cardboard, a blue box for paper, a red sack for plastics, cartons and metal packaging, a green box for glass and a green caddy for food, with batteries and vapes in clear bags and small electricals loose on top. Non-recyclable waste goes out every three weeks in up to 3 black bags of 60 litres that you buy yourself. Everything is out by 6.30am.

Only council bins can be used, neighbours may share a bin registered to one address, and sign-ups are suspended once capacity is reached. Garden waste is free to take to a Waste and Recycling Centre or to compost at home. Fortnightly from 2 March to 4 December 2026, including bank holidays, on a set day confirmed when the bin is delivered. There are no collections from December to February. Bins go out by 6:30am.

If your bin was missed

The council arranges a return visit only if the bags and boxes held the right materials, were out on the pavement by 6.30am on the correct day and week, and were not too heavy, and there was no published disruption. Check your collection day with the council's search first, then report through My Account or on 01437 764551. Containers that were not ready wait for the next scheduled day. Crews work through the day, so wait until the garden waste terms' cut-off of 4:00pm before treating a bin as missed, then report it.

Your nearest tip

Good to know in Pembrokeshire

  • The council has stopped supplying grey residual bags. Use any you have left, then switch to standard black bags of up to 60 litres and no more than 15kg each. The limit is 3 bags every three weeks, which the council describes as the equivalent of one bag a week, and bags can sit inside a container of up to 240 litres for the crew to empty by hand.
  • Households of 6 or more can apply for a larger household allowance once they have signed up for the nappy service if they need it. Waste advisors visit households that ignore the three-bag rule and fixed penalties can follow. One extra bag is allowed at the Christmas collection shown on your calendar.
  • A free fortnightly Absorbent Hygiene Product collection takes nappies and incontinence waste in purple bags, two rolls supplied on sign-up, with no limit on the number of bags. Sanitary waste is not included and stays in the black bag.
  • If a coal fire or stove is your main heating, cooled ash can go out on your residual day in a separate bag marked 'coal ash' weighing no more than 15kg, but you must tell the council first on 01437 764551 or by email.
  • Glass goes in the green box loose with lids, labels and corks left on and is sent to Swansea to be made back into bottles and jars. Pyrex, drinking glasses, window glass and bulbs melt at different temperatures and are left in the box if you include them.
  • The council sells a stackable trolley box for £84: a paper box on top, a middle box for plastics, cartons and cans and a bottom box for glass, all on one wheeled frame, replacing the blue box, red sack and green box. Delivery takes up to 14 days and you still use the blue sack and food caddy.
  • A low level of contamination is sorted by the crew and tagged; a heavily contaminated sack or box is left with a tag explaining why. Red and blue sacks can be stored in a wheelie bin of up to 240 litres as long as the crew can see and lift them out.
  • Garden waste is subscription-only at £61.50 or £66.50 per bin depending on when you signed up, fortnightly from 2 March to 4 December 2026, with no winter service and no concessions. Food and garden waste both go to Welsh facilities, food to anaerobic digestion and garden waste to a composting site in Pembrokeshire.
  • All six Waste and Recycling Centres (Winsel in Haverfordwest, Manorowen, St Davids, Crane Cross, Waterloo in Pembroke Dock and Hermon) are booking-only, with same-day slots available online or on 01437 764551. Cars get 15 minute slots with no annual limit; vans, larger trailers and sign-written vehicles get 30 minute slots capped at 12 a year per household. Display ID with your address on the windscreen and do not arrive more than 10 minutes early.
  • Bulky collections are run for the council by the charity Frame and cost £25 for 5 items or less, requested through My Account. Items are collected from outside the property only when Frame tells you to put them out.

Bin questions in Pembrokeshire

How often is rubbish collected in Pembrokeshire?

Every three weeks, with a maximum of 3 black or grey bags of up to 60 litres and 15kg each. Recycling sacks, boxes and the food caddy are collected every week, nappy bags fortnightly for registered households, and garden waste fortnightly from March to early December for subscribers.

Does Pembrokeshire still supply grey bags?

No. The grey bags brought in with the 2019 service change have been withdrawn and households buy their own standard black bags of up to 60 litres. Any remaining grey bags can still be used at the kerbside. The council says 48% of what is in residual bags could have been recycled.

What goes in each Pembrokeshire recycling container?

Cardboard in the blue sack, paper in the blue box, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays with cartons, cans, tins and foil in the red sack, glass bottles and jars in the green box and food in the green caddy. Black and brown plastic is not taken. Household batteries and vapes go in your own clear bags next to the containers.

How much is garden waste collection in Pembrokeshire?

£61.50 per bin for the season if you subscribed by 31 March 2026, or £66.50 if you subscribed on or after 1 April 2026. Collections are fortnightly from 2 March to 4 December 2026 and stop over winter. There are no concessions or refunds, extra bins cost the full fee each, and new sign-ups pause when capacity is reached.

Do I need to book Pembrokeshire's tips?

Yes, every Waste and Recycling Centre is pre-booked, including same-day slots, online through My Account or without an account, or by phone on 01437 764551. Cars and small vans book 15 minute slots with no limit; vans, larger trailers and sign-written vehicles book 30 minute slots and are limited to 12 a year per household. Bring ID showing your address.

Can lids stay on glass in Pembrokeshire?

Yes. Bottles and jars go in the green box loose, rinsed, with labels, lids, corks and tops left on and no need to sort by colour. Keep the box below the rim so it is not too heavy, and leave out Pyrex, drinking glasses, ornaments, window glass and light bulbs.

What is the Pembrokeshire stackable trolley box?

An optional £84 wheeled unit of three boxes: a 40 litre top box for paper, a 70 litre middle box for plastics, metal packaging and cartons and a 50 litre bottom box for glass. It replaces the blue box, red sack and green box so everything can be wheeled out in one trip. Order on 01437 764551 and allow up to 14 days.
