Redditch bin collection days

Redditch uses a grey bin for rubbish, including food waste for now, a green bin for mixed recycling, and a brown subscription bin for garden waste. Grey-bin rubbish goes to Severn Waste Services and then to EnviRecover at Hartlebury. Garden waste goes to the Hill and Moor composting site near Pershore.

Food waste and the national recycling rules

Redditch does not collect food waste every week. There is no separate food bin yet. The colour guide tells residents to put food waste in the grey bin. The bins and recycling page says the council is working towards a food waste collection during the 2026/27 financial year.

Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. Garden waste is a subscription. On the bins and recycling page checked on 3 October 2026, the council said sign-up for new subscriptions was temporarily paused and asked residents to keep checking that page.

If your bin was missed

Check the service status page and that the right bin was at the kerbside, then use the missed bin report. If the bin was late, too heavy, the wrong bin or held the wrong waste, the crew will not return until the next collection and excess waste has to go to the tip. Report within 48 hours. The council says it cannot return after that. Bins are expected out for 7am. The council says that if the correct bin is out for 7am it is emptied more than 99.9% of the time.

Good to know in Redditch

  • The grey bin is the place for food, black plastic, foil, crisp packets and plastic wrappers. The green bin takes paper, card, tins, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, and milk and juice cartons.
  • Do not put soil, rubble, gas cylinders, hot ash, batteries, televisions, tyres, paint, asbestos or chemicals in the grey bin. The council says those are not accepted at landfill or energy-from-waste plants.
  • Brown bins take grass, branches up to 10cm across, clippings, leaves, weeds, plants and flowers. No bin liners, including biodegradable ones. The council says the composting process takes 14 weeks.
  • Finished compost is screened and sold as a soil conditioner called Greengrow. Grey-bin waste is burned at EnviRecover to put electricity into the National Grid.
  • Worcestershire County Council runs the household recycling centres. The borough page points residents there for the Redditch site and a tip permit.
  • New garden waste subscriptions were paused on the bins page we checked. The colour guide still describes what a subscribed brown bin takes. Food waste collections are planned for 2026/27 and are not running as a separate service yet.
