West Dunbartonshire bin collection days

West Dunbartonshire's rubbish bin is green or black, for what will not go in the blue bin or the brown bin. The blue bin is a wide mix: paper, card, cartons, plastic bottles and tubs, cans and foil. Glass is refused in the blue bin. The pages do not state a collection frequency. The missed-bin rule is that the bin should have been out by 6.30am.

Garden waste

Garden waste arrangements vary across the area. A brown bin is listed beside the blue and green/black bins. The pages read do not say what it takes, how often it is emptied, or whether it is charged.

If your bin was missed

A bin may not have been emptied if it was not on the kerbside by 6.30am, it was the wrong day, or it was contaminated. Report a missed bin through the chatbot. Assisted pull-out misses are by phone on 01389 738282. A contaminated label means remove the items and wait for the next due day. Excess waste is yours to take to a household waste recycling centre.

Good to know in West Dunbartonshire

  • Black plastic food trays are named for the green or black bin, and they are also on the blue bin's do-not list. Plant pots and small amounts of soil from those pots can go in the green or black bin. Side waste is not collected.
  • The blue bin examples are specific brands on the council's page, from fizzy drinks bottles to soup tins and pet food tins. Rinse bottles, cans and tins. Inner pages of hardbacks can be recycled; the covers cannot. Photographs and kitchen towels stay out.
  • Pizza boxes with food on the cardboard are refused in the blue bin. Foil wrapping paper is also refused there and is on the green or black list.
  • The brown bin is linked from both pages and its contents were not on the green or blue pages, so this page does not guess whether it is food, garden or both.
  • Missed bins are reported with the chatbot on the missed-bin page. Assisted pull-out is a phone call to 01389 738282, not the chatbot. The calendar is how you check the day.
  • A labelled contaminated bin is not collected early. Take the wrong items out and present it on the next due day.

Bin questions in West Dunbartonshire

What time do West Dunbartonshire bins need to be out?

By 6.30am on the kerbside, on the correct day. If it was later than that, the missed-bin page says it may not have been emptied.

Does the blue bin take glass?

No. The do-not list starts with glass, then food waste, plastic bags, film, black plastic food trays and polystyrene. Paper, card, cartons, plastic bottles, tubs and cans are in.

How often is the green bin emptied?

The green/black page does not say. It says side waste will not be collected and points to the order bins page for an extra or larger landfill bin. Use the bin collection calendar for the day.
