Wrexham bin collection days

Wrexham empties a 240 litre black or blue household bin once a fortnight and does not take side waste. Recycling boxes or a wheelie box, and the food caddy, are every week on the bin day. A green garden bin is only for people who have paid, and it fills the week the rubbish bin stays in, except in winter.

Use Wrexham’s own page for your bin day

The council's bin collection date finder needs a browser, which BinWeek's lookup service does not run, so the page links to the council's own finder.

Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. The garden bin costs £35 per bin for 2026/27. The council dates that service from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027, and you can join during the year. An extra bin costs £26.50 to buy, and it still needs the annual collection charge. There are no concessions. Wrexham aims for a minimum of 15 garden waste collections a year. The bin goes out by 7.30 am. April and May follow an adjusted timetable because of bank holidays, and December, January and February are collected on a reduced basis. This year there is no sticker: the logistics system records who has paid, and the council asks you to put the house name or number on the green bin.

If your bin was missed

Put the bin and the recycling container out by 7.30am. Household waste is collected on alternate weeks. Recycling and food are collected every week, on the same day as the bin. If you subscribe, the green bin is the week the black or blue bin is not, except from December to February when green bins are emptied monthly. The bins and recycling page is where Wrexham links the missed-collection report. The garden service page says a bin that missed 7.30 am, or that holds the wrong items or is too heavy, may not be emptied, and that genuine misses are rare.

Good to know in Wrexham

  • Homes have either a green box, a black box and a blue sack, or a wheelie box with the same jobs split across the top, middle and bottom trays. Large cardboard is ripped up and put inside the sack or the top tray. Glass jars lose their metal lids to the plastics container.
  • Crisp packets, sweet wrappers, plastic wrapping, cling film, bubble wrap, polystyrene and nappies are black-bin or blue-bin waste in Wrexham, not recycling. Broken glass is refused from the boxes.
  • Food caddy liners should carry the European Bioplastics logo if you buy your own. Free liners can be requested by tying an empty liner to the caddy handle. Plastic carrier bags are refused. Liquids are refused because of bin juice; eggs and yoghurt are allowed.
  • Communal recycling bins take paper, card, plastics, glass, tins and cans. They do not take food and drink cartons, which go to a household recycling centre instead, and they do not take carrier bags.
  • Email reminders arrive the day before collection if you sign up. Bank holiday changes cover Easter, May, August, Christmas and New Year. The when-are page says days change in that period and sends you to the bin-day checker. It does not publish a 2026 Christmas calendar.
  • Severe weather can suspend collections. The council points to its news blog and social accounts for that, not to a standing substitute day.
  • The bins and recycling page links a missed-bin report, a new-bin request, assisted collections and bulky item removal. The report form's deadline is not written on the when-are page or the what-goes page.

Bin questions in Wrexham

Which week is the Wrexham green bin?

The black or blue bin goes one week and a subscribed green bin the next. From December to February the green bin is monthly instead. Recycling and food still go every week, on the bin day, and everything should be out by 7.30am.

What does a Wrexham garden subscription cost?

£35 per bin for 2026/27, dated by the council from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027. Buying another bin is £26.50, plus the annual charge to have it emptied. The aim is a minimum of 15 garden waste collections a year, with no sticker this year and no concessions.

Where is the Wrexham missed-bin report?

The bins and recycling page links a report a missed bin collection, next to the bin-day checker, the garden service and bulky item removal. The page itself does not say how long you have to report.

Can I leave an extra bag beside the Wrexham bin?

No. A 240 litre household bin is collected once a fortnight and side waste is not collected. Recycling that fits the boxes or sack goes every week, so wrappers and nappies are the sort of thing the black or blue bin is for.
