Good to know in Derbyshire Dales

  • Homes that cannot store a grey bin use black sacks, up to four standard sacks, which you buy yourself. A household of 5 or more, or with nappies or medical needs, can ask for 6 sacks. A 240 litre grey bin is for five or more permanent residents, disposable nappies, or incontinence waste. Swapping a 140 litre grey bin for a 240 litre one costs £33.50. A replacement 140 litre grey bin is £26.50, and a replacement 240 litre grey bin is £33.50. The larger-bin line for incontinence waste is 01629 761122. A new bin for a property that has none arrives within 10 working days of payment.
  • The blue-lid bin is 240 litre. Paper and card go in the insert. Glass, cans, aerosols, cartons and plastics go in the body. Homes without a wheeled bin get a blue box and two blue bags, and the bags must not be mixed. Extra recycling beside the containers is taken if it is obvious and contained. Cardboard that will not fit should be no wider than 0.5m. The general enquiries number on these pages is 01629 761100.
  • Small electrical items go out weekly beside the food caddy. Batteries go in a clear sandwich or freezer bag next to the recycling, not in the grey bin.
  • Food liner sales points named on the food page are the Town Hall in Matlock, Arc Leisure Matlock, Ashbourne Leisure Centre, Bakewell Swimming Pool and Wirksworth Leisure Centre. The Town Hall does not take cash. Supermarket liners are allowed only if they meet BS:EN13432 and show the seedling logo.
  • Assisted collection is available when nobody in the household over 16 years old can put the bins out. The crew collects from the storage point and returns the bin.
