Douglas bin collection days

Douglas City Council runs the Island’s largest refuse service itself, and its waste pages are the most complete of any Manx local authority. Domestic wheelie bins are emptied fortnightly, split into Week 1 and Week 2 rounds, and the city is one of only two places on the Island (with Braddan) with a kerbside recycling collection, also fortnightly, on numbered rounds with their own calendars.

Last checked against 5 sources (www.douglas.gov.im, www.gov.im).

Check your bin day

Use Douglas’s own page for your bin day

Isle of Man local authorities publish collection days as fixed weekdays, road lists, maps or PDF calendars rather than an address search BinWeek’s lookup service can query, so the page links to the authority’s own page and lets you set your own bin day.

These dates are the ones you enter. BinWeek does not get them from Douglas. Check them on the council’s site (opens in a new tab) (www.douglas.gov.im).

Good to know in Douglas

  • Refuse collections are fortnightly and split into Week 1 and Week 2; which week you are depends on where you live, and the council publishes a collection calendar to download. Your collection day is the same day as it was last year.
  • Leave the wheelie bin out either the night before or before 6am on your usual collection day. Unacceptable waste includes building waste (bricks, rubble, timber, paint tins), hazardous waste (syringes and certain clinical waste) and side waste, meaning bags placed alongside the bin.
  • Kerbside recycling has its own calendar for each round, from Round 2 to Round 10, and the council’s Recycling Information Reminders sign-up tells you which round your address is on. Extra boxes and bags are free: call 696445 or email refuse@douglas.gov.im.
  • The Isle of Man Government lists Douglas and Braddan as the two authorities with a fortnightly kerbside recycling collection, taking paper, glass bottles and jars, food and drink cans, aluminium foil and plastic bottles. Glass bottles and jars should be rinsed, and the lid can stay on.
  • Douglas uses the Eastern Civic Amenity Site at Middle Park Industrial Estate in Braddan. In summer (1 April to 30 September) it opens Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm and Sundays and bank holidays 8am to 4pm; in winter (1 October to 31 March) it is 8am to 4pm every day, with gates shut 15 minutes before closing.
  • Douglas also runs garden waste, bulk waste and commercial waste collections, each with its own page under Waste Services, and the council asks residents to follow its Waste Services WhatsApp channel for service changes.
