Isle of Man bin collections by local authority

Twenty-one local authorities collect the island’s bins, from Douglas City Council to the parish commissioners. Start with yours.

21 local authorities with a page. 21 have its collection rules written up so far; the rest link to the official page.

How bin collections work on the Isle of Man

On the Isle of Man your bins are collected by your local authority: Douglas City Council, the town commissioners of Ramsey, Peel and Castletown, the village commissioners of Port Erin and Port St Mary, and the district and parish commissioners everywhere else. Each authority sets its own collection day, decides what bins or bags it uses and publishes its own rules, so neighbours across a parish boundary can have different arrangements.

The Isle of Man Government takes the rubbish from there. It runs the Energy from Waste plant at Richmond Hill, where the island’s general waste goes, and sets the island-wide recycling guidance. Recycling bring banks and the civic amenity sites are run jointly by groups of local authorities, which is why the site you use may be run by a board rather than your own commissioners.

Each authority page here links to the authority’s own refuse page, says when we last read it, and lets you set your own collection days for a reminder where the authority does not publish a lookup.

BinWeek is published by Omega IT Limited, which is itself based in Braddan on the Isle of Man, so the island is home ground for us rather than an afterthought. It does not make us official: we are independent of the Isle of Man Government and of every local authority, and their pages always have the final say.

An IM postcode usually places you in one authority, so the postcode box on the home page is the quickest way in. All 21 are also in the A to Z of every area BinWeek covers.

Using a IM postcode on BinWeek

Isle of Man postcodes are not in the UK address data our house-level lookup uses, so the postcode box works at the postcode-sector level here: it takes you to the page for the local authority your sector mostly falls in. Where a sector straddles two areas, or the postcode is a PO box, you land on this page instead. Pick your area below, and on its page you can set your own collection days to get a reminder.
