High Peak bin collection days

High Peak's black bin is for general rubbish, including black plastic, bags and film, polystyrene, bagged nappies, bagged pet waste and bagged cooled ash. The green-lidded bin is garden waste, and only a subscribed bin is emptied. A weekly food caddy service started on 14 September. The black bin page does not say how often general rubbish is collected, so the date comes from the council's own bin-day finder.

The council's bin collection date finder needs a browser, which BinWeek's lookup service does not run, so the page links to the council's own finder.

Food waste and the national recycling rules

High Peak collects food waste every week. The bins hub says the new weekly food waste collection started on 14 September. The missed-bin page confirms food caddies are on a weekly schedule, and says the council will not return for a missed food caddy before the next collection. The food contents page was not the one read here, so this guide does not list what the caddy takes.

Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. The green-lidded bin is emptied only if you have subscribed to the garden waste collection. The page we read does not state the price. The last green-lidded collection for households that had not subscribed was in the week commencing 31st August or 7th September, depending on the schedule. Compostable bags are optional. If you buy them, High Peak asks for compostable bags marked EN13432 with the seedling logo, not biodegradable bags. Loose garden waste is accepted. Any plastic in the bin means it will not be emptied.

If your bin was missed

Present the bin at the collection point by 6am. If it has not been emptied by the end of the day, High Peak's form can show whether access stopped the crew and whether a return is planned. The council will not come back before the next day if the bin was not out, the wrong bin was set out, the crew stickered it for materials they do not accept, it was too heavy, or the contents were stuck or frozen. A missed food caddy is not returned early, because that round is weekly. Red textile bags are no longer collected with the recycling; a missed textile bag is a separate report. Report a missed collection within 2 working days of the scheduled bin day. If the crew recorded no reason, the council says it will come back within 5 working days. A missed red textile bag is collected within 3 working days.

Good to know in High Peak

  • The black bin page was last modified on 16 September 2024. It refuses recyclable glass, tins, cardboard and plastic bottles, plus batteries, hot ash, electrical items and DIY waste. Cooled ash is allowed only if it is bagged. Hot ash is not.
  • The bins hub also links a brown bin and a separate food-waste page. Those contents are not copied here. The green-lidded bin is the garden container, not a dry-recycling bin.
  • Food packaging has to come off before plants go in the green bin. Japanese knotweed, ragwort and Himalayan balsam are refused. Cat and dog faeces are refused. Small amounts of hay or straw from rabbits or guinea pigs are allowed. A real Christmas tree can go in once decorations and the base are removed.
  • You do not have to buy compostable bags. Loose material is fine. Plastic of any kind will not break down, and High Peak says it will not empty a green bin if it sees plastic, because that would contaminate the load.
  • Household recycling centres are mentioned on the bins hub. The page does not name the sites, so this guide does not list them. Bulky and electrical collections are a charged service for domestic households, not businesses.
  • Christmas collection changes were not showing in the calendar when the hub was read. The council said it would add them when the information was available.

Bin questions in High Peak

How often is the High Peak black bin collected?

Use Find your bin day, linked from the bins hub, to see when the next waste collection will be and which bin to put out. The same hub says the new weekly food waste collection started on 14 September.

What if High Peak misses a bin?

Yes. The green-lidded bin is emptied only for garden-waste subscribers. The last collection for households that had not subscribed was in the week commencing 31st August or 7th September, depending on the schedule. The page does not state the fee.
