Mansfield bin collection days

Mansfield collects a green bin for rubbish and a blue bin for dry recycling every fortnight. Glass bottles and jars go in a separate black bin with a teal lid, emptied every eight weeks. Garden waste is a paid brown bin. Food waste is still bagged and put in the green bin. The council's bin pages do not describe a separate weekly food collection.

Food waste and the national recycling rules

Mansfield has a transitional arrangement for weekly food waste. Mansfield's green bin page still lists bagged food waste as something that goes in the green bin. The bins pages do not describe a separate food caddy or a weekly food round. Mansfield is on the transitional list for a later weekly food waste service. These pages do not give the start date.

Garden waste

Garden waste is a paid-for service. The terms do not state the charge. They say you still pay the full annual price if you join part way through the year, that the charge is notified in March, and that you can buy up to four brown bins. No refund is offered if you cancel. The terms say brown bins are emptied every two weeks from March to November and once during December, with no collections during January and February. The service year runs from 1 April to 31 March. Put the bin out by 6am with the house number on it. For a continuous service from 1 April 2026 the terms say you needed to sign up for 2026/2027 by 30 March 2026.

If your bin was missed

Crews start at 6am and can collect until 2pm. Do not report a miss until after 2pm. Use the missed bin form, email mdc@mansfield.gov.uk, or call 01623 463463. A genuine miss is normally returned within 5 working days. Leave the bin out. If the bin was contaminated, late, or not at the kerbside, you wait for the next scheduled day or pay for a return. Report within 2 working days of the collection, and only after 2pm. Bins go out by 6am, lid closed, with nothing tied to the bin.

Good to know in Mansfield

  • The green bin is a 180-litre wheelie bin. The page gives a maximum weight of 90 kg. Side waste is not taken. An extra green bin can be asked for if six or more people live at the address, if there are two or more children aged 4 or under in nappies, or if someone has additional medical waste. Infectious waste is a different service: after a county referral the council collects yellow bags weekly on Tuesday or Wednesday.
  • Blue-bin recycling must be clean, dry and loose, with lids on. Extra recycling can go in a cardboard box or a paper bag, and extra card should be flattened. Glass bottles and jars are refused in the blue bin. The glass bin is a 140-litre black bin with a teal lid. Labels can stay on. Lids should come off where possible. Extra glass beside the bin is not collected. An additional glass bin is free if you regularly fill the first one.
  • The brown bin takes grass, hedge trimmings, leaves, small branches, plants, weeds and cut flowers, loose rather than bagged. Food, turf, soil, treated wood and Japanese knotweed stay out. The sign-up page says this year's garden waste sign-up is closed and does not publish the fee. The terms describe collections every two weeks from March to November, once in December, and none in January or February.
  • Missed bins are reported after 2pm and within 2 working days. The phone line is 01623 463463. A genuine miss is normally emptied within 5 working days. The council says it no longer routinely tags contaminated bins, and records the reason on the in-cab system instead.
  • As of 3 October 2026 the green bin page still tells residents to bag food waste and put it in the green bin. That is the service these pages describe. Mansfield is on the transitional list for weekly food waste, and the pages do not give a start date for a caddy round.

Bin questions in Mansfield

How often does Mansfield collect the glass bin?

The teal-lidded glass bin is emptied every eight weeks. Bottles and jars go in loose, empty and clean. Drinking glasses, Pyrex, mirrors and light bulbs stay out. Check the bin day lookup for the date.

How much is Mansfield garden waste?

The sign-up page says garden waste sign-up is closed for this year and that sign-up for next year opens in early spring. It does not state the charge. It says the bin is emptied every fortnight.

Does Mansfield collect food waste separately?

Not on the pages that describe the current bins. Bagged food waste goes in the green bin, which is emptied every fortnight. The council has not published a caddy list or a weekly food round on those pages.
