West Lindsey bin collection days

West Lindsey's black refuse bin is for non-recyclable waste and is collected every other week, except at homes that stay on a weekly sack round. The blue bin page lists glass, plastic bottles, cans, foil, aerosols and plastic pots, tubs and trays, and it does not publish a leave-out list. Food caddies are described as a new 2026 service. The bin goes out by 7am.

Food waste and the national recycling rules

West Lindsey does not collect food waste every week. West Lindsey says food waste recycling is a new service being introduced across the district in 2026, as part of Simpler Recycling. The food page lists what will go in the caddy. It does not say the round has started, and it does not say how often the caddy is collected.

If your bin was missed

The report page has separate forms for a missed refuse bin, bag or trade waste collection, and for a missed food waste caddy. It also has forms for litter, a dead animal, dog fouling, fly-tipping, and a bin or caddy that was not returned to the boundary. The page does not say how many days you have to report a missed collection.

Good to know in West Lindsey

  • The standard black bin is 180 litres. A household of 6 or more, or one that produces extra waste because of a medical condition, may be able to get a 240 litre bin if recycling is already being used as far as it can. An overloaded wheeled bin is not emptied.
  • The black bin page says the bin must be at the property boundary by 7am, and brought back in by the end of the collection day so it does not block the pavement. Up to three paint tins, or containers of used cooking oil, can be left next to the black bin if they are clearly labelled. Other liquid waste stays out.
  • The blue bin page says stickers on the bins are out of date and points to the Right thing, Right Bin leaflet. There is a limit of two blue bins per household unless the circumstances are exceptional. The page lists what to put in and does not list what to leave out, so no leave-out list is added here.
  • The bins pages also link to a green bin and a purple-lidded bin. Those pages are not used for a contents list here.
  • Food waste liners are not described as a supplied roll. Liquids cannot be poured in. A small amount of cooled cooking oil can go in if other food, such as bread, has soaked it up. Solid roasting or frying fat can go in.
  • Fees for a larger black bin, a replacement bin, or bins for a new property are on the council's fees and charges page, which is linked from the black and blue bin pages. The prices are not repeated here.

Has West Lindsey started food waste collections?

The council says it is a new service being introduced in 2026 under Simpler Recycling.
