Guernsey bin collections by parish

One island-wide set of rules from the States of Guernsey, collected parish by parish, with Alderney and Sark running their own services.

12 parishes and islands with a page. 12 have its collection rules written up so far; the rest link to the official page.

How bin collections work in Guernsey

Guernsey’s rules are set once for the whole island by Guernsey Waste, part of the States of Guernsey. General rubbish goes out in bags carrying a pre-paid sticker, recycling is sorted at the kerb into separate bags, food waste has its own caddy, and glass is collected on its own. What goes in which bag is the same wherever you live on Guernsey.

The collection itself is a parish matter. Each of the ten parishes arranges the rounds for its own roads, so the day your bags go out, and whether a holiday moves it, depends on your parish. That is why BinWeek has a page for each parish: it links to the parish’s own collection information and names the day pattern where the parish publishes one.

Alderney and Sark are part of the Bailiwick but not of the Guernsey scheme. The States of Alderney and the Chief Pleas of Sark each run their own refuse and recycling service, and each has its own page here.

A GY postcode usually places you in a parish, so the postcode box on the home page is the quickest way in. Guernsey’s parishes, Alderney and Sark are also in the A to Z of every area BinWeek covers.

Using a GY postcode on BinWeek

Guernsey postcodes are not in the UK address data our house-level lookup uses, so the postcode box works at the postcode-sector level here: it takes you to the page for the parish or island your sector mostly falls in. Where a sector straddles two areas, or the postcode is a PO box, you land on this page instead. Pick your area below, and on its page you can set your own collection days to get a reminder.
