Torteval bin collection days

Torteval is the smallest of Guernsey’s ten parishes, at the south-western tip of the island, and it has no website of its own: the States of Guernsey lists only an email address and the Douzaine room at Rue du Belle. Its households use the same island-wide system as everyone else, with the night and the week’s bags found through My Bin Night.

Check your bin day

Use Torteval’s own page for your bin day

Guernsey collection nights come from the States of Guernsey’s My Bin Night address search, which runs in the browser and is not something BinWeek’s lookup service can query, so the page links to it and to the parish and lets you set your own bin night.

Your nearest tip

Good to know in Torteval

  • Your collection night and the week’s materials are shown by the States of Guernsey’s My Bin Night search once you enter a house name or postcode and pick the address. The recycling icon at the top of gov.gg shows which colour bag is due island-wide this week.
  • Rubbish bags need the appropriate payment sticker, which can be ordered online in packs of four through Guernsey Post and Manor Farm Foods. Any proper waste bag will do, though the States suggests black for 90 litre bags and white for smaller ones so the sticker is easy to spot.
  • Blue bags take tins and cans, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, foil and milk and juice cartons; clear bags take paper and cardboard; the reusable glass bag takes bottles and jars of any colour. Plastic film, carrier bags, crisp packets and black plastic stay in the rubbish because the sorting machinery cannot handle them.
  • Blue and clear bags are opened and sorted at a local facility, then baled and exported. Food waste and glass go to the Waste Transfer Station at Longue Hougue; the glass is recycled and the food waste is processed in the UK into electricity and compost.
  • The Torteval Douzaine can be reached at constables@torteval.gg or on 01481 265287. Replacement caddies and glass bags are available from Longue Hougue, the Chouet green waste site or a Parish Constables’ office.
