Vale bin collection days

The Vale, in the north of Guernsey, has a weekly refuse round arranged by the Vale Douzaine, with the materials alternating week by week: paper and cardboard or plastics and cans one week, stickered black sacks and glass the other, and food caddies every week. The contractor collects very early, so everything goes out the night before.

Last checked against 4 sources (valeparish.gg, www.gov.gg).

Check your bin day

Use Vale’s own page for your bin day

Guernsey collection nights come from the States of Guernsey’s My Bin Night address search, which runs in the browser and is not something BinWeek’s lookup service can query, so the page links to it and to the parish and lets you set your own bin night.

Good to know in Vale

  • The Vale page describes the alternation: kerbside recycling of paper and cardboard or plastics and cans alternates weekly, as do stickered black-sack residual waste and glass, while food waste caddies can be left out every week. The current week’s bags are shown by the recycling icon at the top of gov.gg.
  • Collection days differ by area. The parish publishes its refuse days and routes as a spreadsheet and the recycling week calendar as a PDF on its Refuse Days and Routes page, or the Douzaine Room can tell you. The downloads on that page were dated 2023 and 2025 when we read it, so check the current week on gov.gg too.
  • Wheelie bins can still be used, but any sacks inside must be the right size and properly stickered for up to 50 litres or up to 90 litres before the contractor will take them, and recycling must be left beside the bin, not in it.
  • Everything goes out the night before, because the contractor picks up very early on collection day.
  • The cost of collection is charged to ratepayers through the refuse rate, set with the budget at the Parish Meeting. Recycling sites named by the parish are at the Longfrie Inn, Salerie Corner and Waitrose Rohais, and the Guernsey Waste Office is on 01481 221234.
