St Lawrence bin collection days

St Lawrence, in the middle of Jersey, uses an external contractor appointed after a tender for its weekly kerbside refuse round and a monthly recycling round. It is strict about containers: refuse and glass must each be in a wheelie bin because the parish says the older dustbin can no longer be handled safely under Jersey’s health and safety law.

Last checked against 2 sources (stlawrence.je, www.gov.je).

Check your bin day

Use St Lawrence’s own page for your bin day

Jersey parishes publish their collection days as road lists, calendars or PDFs rather than an address lookup BinWeek can query, so the page links to the parish’s own list and you can set your own bin day.

If your bin was missed

Questions about your collection day or a bin that was missed go first to the contractor’s Refuse Supervisor on 01534 500191, leaving a message if needed, or by email. The parish asks you to give the contractor the chance to fix a problem first; if you are still dissatisfied, put the complaint in writing to the Connétable at the Parish Hall, who monitors the service agreement.

Good to know in St Lawrence

  • The recycling calendar for the year is a table on the parish page. Paper, card, plastic and tins are collected on a Monday and Tuesday in the second week of each month, and glass on the Monday and Tuesday the following week. Which of the two days applies to your by-road is known to the contractor, so ask the Refuse Supervisor if you are unsure.
  • Wheelie bins are mandatory for refuse and for glass. The parish explains that manual handling of loads is a significant risk under the Health & Safety at Work (Jersey) Law 1989, and that its crews collect from over 2000 householders each week. Bins can be bought from Island retailers; the page names Romeril, JFTU and Pentagon.
  • New residents can collect a free set of recycling containers for paper, plastic and metal from the Parish Hall by ringing the Parish Office on 01534 861672. You buy your own glass wheelie bin.
  • The parish accepts that monthly recycling is not often enough for every household and suggests a mid-month trip to a communal site such as St Peter’s Valley, opposite the Victoria in the Valley pub, or to La Collette.
  • Kerbside means the parish by-road near your property, not necessarily your gate. The contractor manages its own routes and dates, so the parish asks newcomers to ask the Refuse Supervisor which day to put refuse and recycling out.
